Maya Abdominal Therapy was widely developed and taught by Dr. Rosita Arvigo who learned the technique from Don Elijio Panti, a skilled Mayan healer, shaman, and herbalist in Belize. This is based on ancient Mayan healing tradition of abdominal massage, which is an external non-invasive manipulation that gently repositions internal organs, subsequently rejuvenating the flow of blood, lymph, nerve, and Qi.
The healing modality incorporates a holistic approach to wellness including massage, anatomy and physiology, rainforest remedies, nutrition, along with emotional and spiritual healing. The root belief is that with any natural healing technique, these areas must be simultaneously addressed to promote optimal health.
Don Elijio believed that a woman’s center is her uterus, “If a woman’s uterus is out of balance, so is she.”
While aligning the uterus is key to assisting with reproductive wellness in many ciswomen, those without a uterus benefit as the balancing of hormones associated with perimenopause, menopause or otherwise can alleviate many reproductive symptoms that disrupt daily life. The work is highly effective for those struggling with issues with the bladder, acid reflux, digestion (IBS, Colitis, Chron's, etc.), bloating, or feeling full quickly. Most individuals that reach out are looking for fertility enhancement and greatly benefit from the work as a standalone modality or in in conjunction with complementary healing modalities like acupuncture or IVF.
The first session is longer as it includes a thorough intake to discuss holistically what is going on including emotional, physical symptoms, family history, nutrition, and discussion of spiritual practices as the whole human integration is key to wellness. There's a full hour of table time in that first session. Then self-care protocol will be demonstrated and taught so that you can continue to do the work, other self-care recommendations will be provided as part of the first session that may include nutrition referrals, castor oil packs education, and any other appropriate community resources or referrals as needed.
Reflexology points that are appropriate are often incorporated into your session to optimize in the session.
